Welcome to the Total Comfort Solutions Troubleshooting Center
For Plumbing Issues:
- If water is leaking from a specific fixture; you can shut off the water supply at the valve next to that fixture
- Please turn off the main water supply to prevent any further damage.
Turn off Main Water Supply (FOR ACTIVE LEAK)
- Locate your house shut-off valve. The valve is usually located where the water line comes into the house, usually on an outside wall near the front of the house. This shutoff valve can usually be turned off by hand. Turn the valve handle clockwise to turn off all water to the house.
- The other valve is located near your water meter. Water meters are installed inside plastic or concrete meter boxes and placed close to the street so they can be easily read.
Shutting off Main Water Supply:
- Leave Water dripping slowly (TO AVOID FREEZING)
- Turn off Water Supply to individual faucets
- Turning off water to toilet
- Turning off water to faucet
For HVAC ISSUES:
Thermostat is blank / Thermostat is on, but nothing running
- Check low voltage fuse at Indoor Unit
- Shut off Power, pull fuse
- Try adjusting the thermostat to a comfortable temperature and ensuring all vents are open and unblocked.
- Does the Thermostat have power? You may need to replace the AA or AAA batteries. If you don’t see either battery type; don’t change the battery
- Check the air filter to see if it’s clogged. This will restrict your airflow
- Check your breaker box to see if a breaker has possibly flipped. Generally the breaker box can be found in low-traffic areas of the home like your Garage, Basement, or Utility Closet. If you’re in an apartment it may also be in a hallway or laundry area.
- Find the breaker switch dedicated to your heating/cooling equipment. Try flipping the breaker off then back on
Make sure your HVAC System has Power
- Start by checking your breaker, and make sure it hasn’t flipped or blown a fuse. Try flipping the breaker, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- Generally the breaker box can be found in low-traffic areas of the home like your Garage, Basement, or Utility closet. If you’re in an apartment it may also be in a hallway or laundry area.
Try resetting your HVAC system
Every Furnace, Air Conditioner, and Heat Pump has a different reset method. Check the Owner’s manual for your system. If you don’t have the manual, you can google the Model Number.
Use this website to find Owner’s Manuals online: https://www.manualslib.com/
Make sure your Furnace Door is closed
Many furnaces have a switch that prevents them from operating with the door panel is off. If the furnace is not producing heat; open the service door and shut it again. Check to make sure everything is shut tightly then try turning the heat back on.
Putting the Furnace Door on:
Check your Thermostat
One of the first steps is to make sure your Thermostat has power. If it’s battery operated (almost always AA or AAA); try changing the batteries. If the Thermostat is getting power, check and make sure your temperature settings haven’t been changed.
Changing Thermostat Batteries:
Install a new Air Filter
If your system hasn’t been working as well lately, or the air coming out of the vents is dusty or humid, or it’s been a while since you last changed your filter; it may be time to replace the filter. Dirty old filters will reduce air quality, affect your system’s efficiency, and reduce air flow from the vents.
If the system doesn’t turn back on after, it may have locked out. Reset the power and turn it back on.
Check your Air Vents for obstructions
If certain areas of your home are getting less heating/cooling; it might be a shut or covered vent. Check to ensure your vents are free from dirt, dust, or foreign objects that could obstruct the airflow.
